Stay is a program that plays the ancient oriental game of go. Go is a quite simple game as far as the rules are concerned, but this turns out to make the game more difficult. The origin of Go is quite debated, but it surely came from either Korea, Japan, or China. Although Go has been extremely popular in asian countries in recent times, Go is becoming more and more popular around the world partly due to the popularity of eastern religons like zen and taoism.
For a detailed description of how Stay plays go, you can go to the documents section. There you will also find out other information about go: why it is becoming popular in the artificial intelligence community, why it is an interesting choice for a computer program, what the current trend in Go programs are, and so forth.
Go is open source, licensed under the GPL, which means you can look at the source code - you can see exactly how the program runs. I did this for a couple reasons: so that i can have peer review of my program, and so that other people could benefit from my work and incorporate them in their research. Almost all of the top Go programs are 'closed source' in that they do not reveal exactly how their program plays, but this hinders the computer-go community in general as they don't share how they got such good results.
have fun, ---tyler
